The word Allaah (Ta’ala) is the Name of His Being (Ta’ala). The meaning of Allaah (Ta’ala) is, ‘The Being (Ta’ala) Who Encompasses all Perfection, and Who is Pure (Ta’ala),from all defects and flaws.”
With this Name of Allaah (Ta’ala) do we commence, and in Him (Ta’ala) do we place our trust, in Him (Ta’ala) do we seek protection, through His Greatness (Ta’ala), do we cry for help and mercy, through His Majesty (Ta’ala), do we attain strength of Imaan, and it is His Qualities (Ta’ala), which we chant. We praise His Greatness (Ta’ala), commend His Majesty (Ta’ala), and hymn His Attributes (Ta’ala). Upon His (Ta’ala) Messenger SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam do we send salaah and salaam (greetings and salutations).
Allaah (Ta’ala) is the Sustainer (Ta’ala) of all the worlds, the Most Merciful (Ta’ala) of those who show mercy, the Most Powerful (Ta’ala). His (Ta’ala) Judgement is Most Decisive. All creation and commands are under His (Ta’ala) Control. In His (Ta’ala) Control lies benefit and harm. In reality, He (Ta’ala) was in Existence before all. His (Ta’ala) Existence is necessary. He (Ta’ala) is recognised naturally. All intellect affirm His (Ta’ala) Existence, in fact all things in existence are proof of His (Ta’ala) Existence. All creation gives testimony to His Oneness (Ta’ala), and His (Ta’ala) Quality of Sustaining and Nourishing (Ta’ala), and man’s nature attest to it. His (Ta’ala) Presence and Permanence is proven by all motion. Similarly, all things in the past, present, or future are proof of His (Ta’ala) Subsistence. It is Allaah (Ta’ala) Who Alone (Ta’ala) has Created the skies and earth, and sent down rain from the clouds. Thereafter, by means of this water He (Ta’ala) has Brought forth different forms of vegetation in beautiful gardens. By means of this water, He (Ta’ala) has Brought forth life and spread in the earth all His (Ta’ala) Creation.
Help can only be sought from Allaah (Ta’ala) in all misfortunes and calamities. All goodness and generosity stem from Him (Ta’ala). In front of His Being (Ta’ala), all are submissive. The earth, skies and all creation praise and glorify Him (Ta’ala). He (Ta’ala) is the Creator (Ta’ala) of the universe, Forgiver (Ta’ala) of sins, and Knower (Ta’ala) of the unseen, so much so, that He (Ta’ala) is Aware of the thoughts and intentions in the heart. His (Ta’ala) Knowledge encompasses everything. His (Ta’ala) Mercy and Forbearance accommodates everything. His (Ta’ala) Decision overcomes all creation.
Souls cannot get rest without loving Him (Ta’ala); hearts cannot find contentment, without His (Ta’ala) Remembrance; intellect cannot become pure, without His (Ta’ala) Recognition; salvation cannot be attained, except by His (Ta’ala) Taufeeq (Divine Guidance); hearts cannot get life, without His (Ta’ala) Kindness; matters cannot occur, except by His (Ta’ala) Command; those astray cannot be rightly guided, without His (Ta’ala) Guidance; those who are crooked cannot become straight, without His (Ta’ala) Straightening; none can understand, except by His (Ta’ala) Orientation; none can be saved from difficulties, except by His (Ta’ala) Mercy; nothing can be protected, except by His (Ta’ala) Protection; no matter can be commenced, except by His (Ta’ala) Name, nor can it be terminated, except by His (Ta’ala) Praises; hopes cannot be attained, except by His (Ta’ala) Facilitation; success cannot be attained, except by His (Ta’ala) Obedience; there is no life, except by remembering Him (Ta’ala), loving Him (Ta’ala) and recognising Him (Ta’ala); and Jannah (paradise) cannot be enjoyed, except by listening to His (Ta’ala) Voice and seeing Him (Ta’ala). He (Ta’ala) is that Being (Ta’ala) whose Mercy and Knowledge encompasses everything, and He (Ta’ala) Bestows ample favours on all creation.
He (Ta’ala) is the Rightful Deity (Ta’ala), Real Sustainer and Nourisher (Ta’ala), True Sovereign (Ta’ala), and He (Ta’ala) Alone has Complete Perfection in all aspects. He (Ta’ala) is completely free from all weaknesses and faults in any aspect. Those praising Him (Ta’ala) , cannot praise Him (Ta’ala) enough, even though they exhaust all their time praising Him (Ta’ala), with all different forms of praises. In fact His (Ta’ala) Praises are far more superior to that. He (Ta’ala) is as He (Ta’ala) has Praised Himself (Ta’ala).
He (Ta’ala) has Knowledge of concealed affairs, He (Ta’ala) is the Creator of the heavens. He (Ta’ala) Regulates all matters and clearly explains His (Ta’ala) Signs. The earth and all that is contained therein, along with the heavens glorify Him (Ta’ala).
There is none equal to Allaah (Ta’ala). He (Ta’ala) Raised the skies without pillars. He (Ta’ala) Created the mountains, and spread out the earth. He (Ta’ala) is the One who Split the oceans, and caused the rivers to flow and He (Ta’ala) Folds the day into the night and the night into the day.
Might is for Him (Ta’ala). Omnipotence, Greatness, Grandeur, Majesty, Authority, Kingship, Judgement and Strength belongs solely to Him (Ta’ala). Praise and Purity is only for Him (Ta’ala). How great is His (Ta’ala) Rank! How Magnificent is His (Ta’ala) Kingdom! How lofty is His (Ta’ala) Status! How Close is He (Ta’ala) to His creation ?! How Kind is He (Ta’ala) to His (Ta’ala) Servants! Due to His (Ta’ala) Brilliance, the sky and earth become illuminated. Due to His (Ta’ala) Blessed Being (Ta’ala), darkness changes to light. His (Ta’ala) Grandeur is concealed from eyes. The eyes of the heart sometimes become attached to Him (Ta’ala). The communication emanating from the chest is engaged with Him (Ta’ala).
Eyes cannot observe Him (Ta’ala), nor can thought and imaginations attain Him (Ta’ala). Occurrences cannot alter Him (Ta’ala). Those who describe Him (Ta’ala) cannot encompass His (Ta’ala) Qualities. He (Ta’ala) is Aware of the specks of the mountain, the drops of the ocean, the number of raindrops, and leaves of the trees, as well as the number of whatever the day and night passes on.
Allaah (Ta’ala) is the Most Beneficent (Ta’ala). He (Ta’ala) Loves those who are charitable. He (Ta’ala) is Very Grateful (Ta’ala) and Loves those who are grateful. He (Ta’ala) is Beautiful (Ta’ala) and Loves beauty. He (Ta’ala) is Pure (Ta’ala) and Loves purity. He (Ta’ala) is Generous (Ta’ala) and Loves generosity. He (Ta’ala) Accepts Repentance (Ta’ala) and Loves those who seek repentance. He (Ta’ala) is Bashful (Ta’ala) and Loves bashfulness. He (Ta’ala) Conceals faults and Loves those who conceal faults of others.
When a slave spreads out his hands towards Him (Ta’ala), Allaah (Ta’ala) feels ashamed to return them empty handed. He (Ta’ala) also feels ashamed to punish any white-haired person who has passed his youth in Islam. He (Ta’ala) is that Being (Ta’ala) Who Grants Pardon and He (Ta’ala) is the One Who Forgives (Ta’ala) and Loves the quality of forgiving in His (Ta’ala) Slaves. Allaah (Ta’ala) Forgives the sins of His (Ta’ala) Slaves, when they seek forgiveness. When sins increase, and shortcomings, blemishes, and flaws become too great, the heart becomes hard, and thereafter man fears destruction and deprivation, at this moment Allaah (Ta’ala) calls out to him, “Say (O Sayyiduna Rasulullah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam), “O My Slaves who have oppressed their souls, do not become despondent of the mercy of Allaah (Ta’ala). Verily Allaah (Ta’ala) forgives all sins. Verily He (Ta’ala) is most forgiving and most merciful.” (Zumr verse 53)
“The one who comes towards Him (Ta’ala) one hand span, Allaah (Ta’ala) Comes towards him one arms length. The one who comes towards Allaah (Ta’ala) one arm’s length, Allaah (Ta’ala) Comes towards him two hand’s length. The one who comes to Allaah (Ta’ala) walking, Allaah (Ta’ala) Comes to him running. “(Tirmidhi)
The one who turns towards Him (Ta’ala), will attain Him (Ta’ala) even though he is far; and he who turns away from Him (Ta’ala), will remain far from Him (Ta’ala) , even if he calls Him (Ta’ala) from close by. The one who leaves anything for the Pleasure of Allaah (Ta’ala), Allaah (Ta’ala) will Grant him such things that are far superior, and even more.
The one who intends to Please Him (Ta’ala), Allaah (Ta’ala) Takes his pleasure into consideration. The one who does work keeping in view the assistance of Allaah (Ta’ala), Allaah (Ta’ala) will also Make iron soft for him. Those who remember Him (Ta’ala) are in His (Ta’ala) Company. Those who thank Him (Ta’ala) become worthy of more Favours from Him (Ta’ala). Those who obey Him (Ta’ala) become worthy of being Honoured by Him (Ta’ala). Allaah (Ta’ala) does not make those who disobey Him (Ta’ala) despair of His (Ta’ala) Mercy. If they turn to Him (Ta’ala), they become the Beloved of Allaah (Ta’ala). If they do not turn to Him (Ta’ala), then Allaah (Ta’ala) is still Most Merciful on them. He afflicts them with difficulties to cure them of their shortcomings. He (Ta’ala) is so Appreciative, that one act of virtue is rewarded between ten and seven hundred times , and in fact even more. However, a single evil act is counted as only one. If one is regretful of his sins and seeks forgiveness, He (Ta’ala) will Forgive him. He (Ta’ala) is Appreciative of even a few acts of virtue, and Forgives multitudes of sins. He (Ta’ala) even Changes the sins of those who sincerely repent before Him (Ta’ala), into righteous deeds.
Allaah (Ta’ala), at every moment is in a different Splendour. He (Ta’ala) Forgives sins, Removes difficulties, Raises some nations and lowers others. He (Ta’ala) Gives Life to the dead, and Gives Death to the living. He (Ta’ala) Answers the supplications of the callers, and He (Ta’ala) Grants Cure to the sick. He (Ta’ala) Grants Honour to whomsoever He (Ta’ala) Wishes, and He (Ta’ala) Disgraces whomsoever He (Ta’ala) Wishes. He (Ta’ala) Joins a broken bone, Makes a poor man wealthy, Grants knowledge to an ignorant person, Steers a misguided person, and Guides and Assists a confused person. He (Ta’ala) Frees a prisoner, Satiates a hungry person, Clothes a naked person, Cures a sick person, Grants Safety to a person in difficulties, Accepts a person who repents, Rewards a good-doer, and Aids an oppressed person.
Allaah (Ta’ala) Grants. In fact, it is only He (Ta’ala) who Grants. Life, a body, hands, feet, sight and insight, hearing abilities and movement, the ability to ponder and think, the heart, the light of Imaan within the heart, the brain and the ability to contemplate… all of this has been solely Granted by Him (Ta’ala).
The author of Ruhul Bayaan has alluded to this point in his commentary. Firaun too, did not refer to himself as Allaah (Ta’ala), since he did not possess the power to do so. He, however said to his people, “I am your lofty Rabb.”
This Name (Ta’ala) was in existence when the universe was non-existent. It will remain when nothing will once again exist. This Name (Ta’ala) is the Heart and Soul of the universe. This world will subsist as long as this Blessed Name (Ta’ala) remains on the tongue of even one person. When there remains not even one believer to utter Allaah (Ta’ala), then the whole universe will cease to exist. The stars will be extinguished, the waters of the oceans and rivers will dry up, the beauty of the flowers, the innocent songs of the nightingales, the rising of beautiful mornings, the serenity of cool nights and the beautiful sceneries of life will all come to a standstill.
The Name Allaah (Ta’ala) is found on the tongue of every believer of any religion. Some have referred to Him (Ta’ala) as ‘Parmeshaur’, others have called Him (Ta’ala) ‘Brahman’, whereas others have called Him (Ta’ala) ‘Raam Raam’, ‘Ahormazdaa’ or ‘Alhayaa and Yazdaan’. If a person hears attentively, then he will hear the words Allaah (Ta’ala), Allaah (Ta’ala) from the swaying of the flowers, the chirping of the birds, the rustling of the leaves, and the glitter of the sun beams. His (Ta’ala) Power is manifest in all of these.
This Name (Ta’ala) is so Blessed that whoever reads it will never be deprived. The Ambiyaa (messengers), Awliyaa and pious servants of Allaah (Ta’ala) have raised the echo of His Name (Ta’ala). It is this Name (Ta’ala) Sayyiduna Adam Alayhis Salaam uttered, which changed his restlessness into peace. Due to the blessings of this Name (Ta’ala), Sayyiduna Zakariyyaa Alayhis Salaam was granted a flower i.e. Sayyiduna Yahyaa Alayhis Salaam in old age. By the effects of this Name (Ta’ala), the blazing fire was transformed into a beautiful garden for Sayyiduna Ebraaheem Alayhis Salaam. When Sayyiduna Yunus Alayhis Salaam, in the belly of the fish, took the Name of Allaah (Ta’ala), he attained emancipation from sorrow. When Sayyiduna Moosa Alayhis Salaam pronounced it, streams flowed from a rock, and a raging sea became dry. Sayyiduna Isaa Alayhis Salaam took the Name Allaah (Ta’ala). The blind began to see, the leper became cured and the dead came to life. When Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam articulated Allaah (Ta’ala), the unsheathed sword in the hand of the disbeliever fell down, stones spoke, the moon split into two, the streams of guidance began flowing in hearts which were more rigid than stones, and the Arab cities and villages became illuminated with the light of guidance and righteousness.
