The Love That The Sahaabah Radhiallaahu Anhum Had For Rasulullaah Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam
1.) Abdullaah ibn Abu Bakr RadhiAllaahu Anhu narrates that (during the Battle of Badr) Sa'd ibn Mu'aadh RadhiAllaahu Anhu said, “O Nabi of Allaah! Should we not build you a structure for shade so that you could stay there and your conveyance could stay in readiness with you. We shall then fight the enemy and if Allaah grants us honour and victory over them, it would be what we want. However, if the contrary occurs, you could mount your conveyance and join up with those who have remained behind (in Madinah). Many people have remained behind who love you no less than we do and who would have never stayed behind had they known that we were going to fight a battle. Allaah shall then use them to protect you because they are your well-wishers and will fight by your side.”
Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam praised this gesture of Sa'd RadhiAllaahu Anhu and made duaa for him. The structure was then erected for Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam. He remained in there with Abu Bakr RadhiAllaahu Anhu. None else was with them.”
(Dalaailun-Nubuwwah of Bayhaqi vol. 3 page 44, Seeratun-Nabawiyyah wa Taareekhul-Khulafaa of Ibn Hibbaan vol. 1 page 167, Al Bidaayah wan Nihaayah vol.3
page 268 (Fikr).)
2.) Aaishah RadhiAllaahu Anha narrates that a man came to Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam and said, “O Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam! I love you more than my own self and more than my children. When I am in my house and think of you, I have no peace until I come to see you. Now that I think of my death and yours, I realise that you will be elevated amongst those occupying the highest positions in Jannah and I fear that I will never get to see you when I get to Jannah.
Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam gave no reply until Jibreel Alayhis Salaam came with the revelation of the verse,
Those who obey Allaah and the Rasul will be (in the Aakhirah) with those Ambiyaa (those who received divine revelation), siddeeqeen (exceptionally pious), martyrs (those prepared to die for Allaah Jalla Jalaalahoo and for Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam) and righteous ones (those who purify their bodies and souls) on whom Allaah has bestowed His bounties. These are indeed the best of companions. (Although all these people may not necessarily share the same stages of Jannah, they will be able to meet each other frequently.) { Nisaa, verse 69} (Al-Mu’jamul-Awsat of Tabaraani no. 477, Al-Mu’jamus-Sagheer of Tabaraani no. 52)
Another narration from Abdullaah ibn Abbaas RadhiAllaahu Anhu states that a man once approached Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam saying, “O Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam! I love you so much that whenever I think of you, I feel that I would die if I do not come to see you. It now occurs to me that I would be on a level lower than yours when I enter Jannah (and will be unable to see you). This grieves me terribly and I therefore wish to be on the same level as you.”
Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam gave no reply until Allaah Jalla Jalaalahoo revealed the verse,
Those who obey Allaah and the Rasul will be (in the Aakhirah) with those Ambiyaa, siddeeqeen (exceptionally pious), martyrs and righteous ones on whom Allaah has bestowed His bounties. These are indeed the best of companions.
{Nisaa, verse 69}
Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam then called for the Sahaabi RadhiAllaahu Anhu and recited the verse to him.
(Al-Mu’jamul-Kabeer of Tabaraani no. 12559, Al-Mukhtaarah Vol. 11 page 79 no. 71)
3.) Anas RadhiAllaahu Anhu narrates that a man once asked Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam when Qiyaamah will take place.
"What have you prepared for the Day of Qiyaamah?" asked Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam.
The Sahaabi RadhiAllaahu Anhu replied, “Nothing besides the love for Allaah and His Rasul.”
Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam told him, “(On the Day of Qiyaamah) You shall be with those whom you love.”
Anas RadhiAllaahu Anhu says, “Nothing made us as happy as the statement of Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam, ‘You shall be with those whom you love.’ I love Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam, Abu Bakr RadhiAllaahu Anhu and Umar RadhiAllaahu Anhu. Because of this love I bear for them, I hope to be with them.”
(Bukhaari no. 3688, Muslim no. 2639)
Another narration of Anas RadhiAllaahu Anhu states, “While I have seen the companions of Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam rejoice about many things, I have never seen them rejoice more than the time when a man came and asked, ‘O Rasulullaah! A person loves another for doing a good deed that he is unable to do (will this benefit him)?’
Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam replied, “A man shall be (in the Aakhirah) with those whom he loves.”
(Abu Dawood no. 5127)
4.) Abu Dharr RadhiAllaahu Anhu narrates that he once said to Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam, “O Rasulullaah! (What will be the outcome of) A man who loves a group of people but is unable to carry out the deeds they carry out?”
Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam replied, “You, O Abu Dharr, shall be with those whom you love.”
Abu Dharr RadhiAllaahu Anhu then said, “I love Allaah and His Rasul.”
“You shall therefore be with those whom you love,” Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam assured him.
When Abu Dharr RadhiAllaahu Anhu repeated his words, Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam repeated what he had said.
(Abu Dawood no.5126, Musnadul-Bazzaar no. 3951, Saheeh Ibn Hibbaan no. 556)
5.) Abdullaah ibn Abbaas RadhiAllaahu Anhu reports that the news once reached Ali RadhiAllaahu Anhu that Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam was experiencing severe hunger.
Ali RadhiAllaahu Anhu therefore left home to look for some work by which he could earn something to take to Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam. When he entered the orchard of a Jewish man, the man asked him to draw seventeen buckets of water from the well for a price of one date for every bucket drawn. The Jew then allowed Ali RadhiAllaahu Anhu to choose what type of dates he wanted and Ali RadhiAllaahu Anhu chose seventeen Ajwah dates.
When Ali RadhiAllaahu Anhu brought the dates, Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam asked, “Where did you get this from, Abu Hasan?”
Ali RadhiAllaahu Anhu replied, “O Nabi of Allaah! When I heard about your hunger, I went out to look for a job to get you this food.”
“Was it the love of Allaah and for His Rasul that motivated you to do this?”
Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam asked. “It certainly was,” came the reply.
Rasulullaah SallAllaahu Alayhi Wasallam then said, “Whenever a servant of Allaah loves Allaah and His Rasul, poverty comes to him faster than water flowing downstream. The person who loves Allaah and His Rasul should prepare a shield (of patience and abstinence) against tribulations.”
(As-Sunan-Kubra of Bayhaqi no. 11649, the first portion of this hadeeth is in Ibn Majah no. 2446)
